What is Perspective?

A visual technique that creates the illusion of depth and distance in 2D images.

Perspective is a visual technique used to create the illusion of depth and distance in two-dimensional images. It simulates how objects appear smaller and closer together as they recede into the distance, mimicking how the human eye perceives the three-dimensional world.

Types of perspective:

- One-point perspective: Single vanishing point (looking down a road)

- Two-point perspective: Two vanishing points (corner view)

- Three-point perspective: Three vanishing points (bird's eye or worm's eye view)

- Isometric perspective: Parallel projection (no vanishing points)

- Atmospheric perspective: Objects become less distinct with distance

Perspective principles:

- Vanishing points: Where parallel lines converge

- Horizon line: Eye level in the scene

- Foreshortening: Objects appear shorter when viewed at angles

- Scale: Objects appear smaller as distance increases

- Overlap: Closer objects cover distant ones

Perspective is used in:

- 3D icon design

- Architectural visualization

- Game environments

- Illustration

- UI design

Understanding perspective helps designers create more realistic and engaging 3D icons and graphics.
